The 4th grade students began learning about triplets this week. We began by reviewing our meter signs of 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4. The students were reminded that the quarter note gets one beat and that 2 eighth notes equal one beat. The concept that a set of 3 eighth notes with a 3 above it means that it is a triplet and it gets 1 beat. We sang a song using triplets and clapping to the rhythm of the song. In our Quaver - Qstudent, we used our iPads to access the content in class. Students were taken to the Rhythm Selectah game and had a chance to create their own rhythms and practiced clapping and counting the rhythms. We then shared on the Smart board. Here are a few photos.
Welcome back! I look forward to having your child in my classroom again this year. We have many exciting things that we will be learning. Your child will have full access to our Quaver Music site this year. Each child will be given a login and password card at the beginning of school. This will give them access at school and at home. Please encourage your child to explore the site at home and to give their avatar a makeover. We will also being using SeeSaw occasionally and this website to post classroom activities. I hope you check back often!
We will be using their recorders from last year. I will send home an order form the first week of school for those who are unable to locate their instrument. Take a look at the Fine Arts calendar tab to the left. You will find all events for music there. I can't wait to see your child!! The 4th graders are learning that not only do we learn to sing the song, but we learn about the song. The students used their iPads to do research on "Yankee Doodle" and learned how to put their interesting facts into their own words using google docs. The students will be sharing some of their facts next week in class.
Some of the questions that they explored were: 1. Where did the melody for "Yankee Doodle" come from? 2. What is meant by the terms "doodle" and "macaroni?" 3. Who wrote the words and where did he or she live? I look forward to hearing their facts next week! In 4th grade we have been learning about meter in 2, meter in 3 and meter in 4. Today they were able to use their iPads to create rhythms in meter of 4. After they created their rhythms the students clapped them to a chosen track.
We are back at school! The students are having a great time learning music and using our new iPads in class! We are learning about triplets and will begin sixteenth notes this week. We have a lot of interactive applications that we use through Quaver music and our iPads! Looking forward to adding more details as the year progresses!
Welcome to the 4th grade music site. We had a very busy first week of school. The 4th graders took photos and had a great time catching up. We learned the song, "All In" and discussed what it looks like to be "all in" for the school year. The students were able to write a list or create pictures that show how they can be "all in" this year.. I hope you visit our page often. Look for information about our upcoming recorder unit and for our upcoming concerts. I hope to update this page weekly. See you soon!
